MHA Hands Over Red Fort Blast Probe to NIA

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday handed over the investigation into the Red Fort blast to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), officials said, indicating that the explosion is being treated as a possible terror-related incident.

“The blast case has been handed over to the NIA,” a senior source confirmed.

The decision came shortly after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation in Delhi and other parts of the country following Monday evening’s explosion that left 12 people dead and several others injured.

Shah has convened another high-level security review meeting later in the day to assess the ongoing investigation and preventive measures being taken in the national capital.

Officials said the NIA’s involvement underscores the seriousness of the case, as the agency is specifically mandated to handle matters involving terrorism, national security, and transnational threats.

The blast occurred in a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, triggering a powerful explosion that gutted several vehicles and caused panic in the area.

Emergency teams, including Delhi Police’s Special Cell, NSG bomb disposal units, and forensic experts, had reached the spot soon after the incident and began preliminary investigations.

Senior officials from the NIA and Delhi Police are expected to jointly inspect the site and collect evidence for forensic analysis.
