Jammu Shooter Ravinder Singh Wins Gold at ISSF Championships

Naib Subedar Ravinder Singh, a distinguished 29-year-old shooter from the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU), Mhow, has brought pride to Jammu by clinching the gold medal in the Men’s 50m Free Pistol event at the ISSF World Championships. The prestigious competition took place at the Egypt International Olympic City Range, showcasing top talent from around the globe.

Competing against 47 elite shooters, Ravinder demonstrated remarkable skill and composure. He began his series with a moderate score of 93, but quickly found his rhythm, scoring 98, 94, 95, 93, and finishing strongly with a score of 96. His final tally of 569 points not only secured him the gold but also positioned him well ahead of South Korea’s Kim Cheongyong (556) and Individual Neutral Athlete Anton Aristarkhov (556), who took the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Ravinder’s victory is particularly impressive as he had been sidelined from training for over two weeks due to the recent birth of his daughter. In a remarkable display of focus, he managed only four to five days of practice before the championship, yet this did not deter his performance. His discipline and resilience became pivotal factors in this career-defining triumph.

Additionally, Ravinder’s exceptional individual performance significantly contributed to India securing a silver medal in the 50m Free Pistol team event. Teaming up with Kamaljeet (540) and Yogesh Kumar (537), they amassed a total of 1646 points, narrowly missing out on the gold—just two points behind South Korea’s score.

Earlier this year, Ravinder also earned a silver medal at the National Games. He took a moment to reflect on his recent success, stating, “This victory is not merely my personal achievement but is for all those who supported me. I am incredibly thankful to my family and the Army for their unwavering support.”

The warm reception Ravinder received upon returning to his hometown of Bishnah exemplifies the immense pride he has instilled in his community. Former MLA Ashwani Kumar Sharma praised him as a role model for the youth, emphasizing the importance of dedication and hard work. Celebrations erupted as hundreds of residents flooded the streets, commemorating his historic achievement.

Ravinder Singh’s story is one of perseverance and triumph. His victory resonates not only within the realm of sports but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring shooters across India. As he continues to pursue excellence in his field, the nation eagerly anticipates his future endeavors on the international stage.
